Shade me RED: World AIDS Day!

AIDS Awareness

In lieu of celebrating World AIDS Day which is observed on December 1st (tomorrow), I wanted to dedicate this post today to help spread worldwide awareness about this ongoing epidemic.

Ways to be aware:
  1. Know your status! CDC says you should get tested for HIV/AIDS at least once year. Of course if you participating in frequent activities that put you more at risk, you should consult with your physician to determine how often you should be getting tested. Some people have the misconception that just because they aren’t sexually active they shouldn’t be getting tested regularly which is absolutely WRONG! Even if you are married folks, go get tested together! There are other ways to contract the disease such as sharing needles or exposure to blood through an open wound etc. Grab a friend and go! It’s always better to be in the KNOW…
  2. Have safe sex responsibly! Too often this is said but I’ll say it again…if you are sexually active at any point in your life whether regularly or not, you should be getting tested. Condoms are the best way contraceptive to protect yourself and your partner. Of course, the best protection of them all is practicing abstinence.
  3. Educate yourself and others! Education doesn’t stop here, AIDS awareness is 365 day topic which requires 365 days of education, every year. The only we can beat this epidemic is if we keep talking about it and doing something about it to change it. Share this post, talk about it with friends, family and co-workers, go out and get tested routinely, blog about it, tweet about it, Facebook it, volunteer with an HIV/AIDS awareness organization, host an HIV/AIDS fundraising event to donate to research etc. If we all do our part, we can make a HUGE difference in this world.
